The Festival du Film Merveilleux is honored to welcome Christine Mazereau as a member of the jury for its 15th edition, taking place in Paris from September 18 to 20, 2025. With over three decades of experience at the crossroads of broadcasting, cultural policy, and higher education, Mazereau brings invaluable expertise to this year’s selection.
A Career Bridging Media, Policy, and Education
A graduate of Paris-Dauphine University in Media Management, Christine Mazereau began her career in journalism, working with leading French broadcasters such as France Télévisions, TF1, and Radio France, as well as in professional and consumer print media. This early phase of her career grounded her in both editorial practice and the dynamics of mass communication.
In 1995, she joined the CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée), where she managed various support funds, notably the Experimental Production Fund, dedicated to encouraging innovative forms of audiovisual storytelling. Her work at CNC demonstrated her strong commitment to nurturing creative risk-taking in the audiovisual sector.
From 2000 onwards, Mazereau became a key figure in European cultural policy as part of the French office of the European Union’s MEDIA Programme, where she advised and supported professionals across film, television, and video game industries. For over 15 years, she played a crucial role in connecting French professionals with European opportunities, funding schemes, and networks.
Leading Animation Education in Europe
Since 2015, Christine Mazereau has served as Director of RECA (Réseau des Écoles de Cinéma d’Animation), which now brings together 34 member institutions. Under her leadership, RECA has grown into a cornerstone of animation education in France, fostering collaboration between schools, strengthening professional standards, and building bridges with the industry. Her work has been pivotal in training the next generation of animators who now contribute to the vitality of the French and international animation sectors.

Her trajectory, spanning journalism, cultural funding, European cooperation, and higher education, gives Christine Mazereau a unique vantage point on the creative industries. For the Festival du Film Merveilleux, her presence in the jury reflects the festival’s mission: celebrating imagination while building bridges between cultures, industries, and generations.
