Director Biography – Stefano Lorenzi, Clelia Catalano

Stefano Lorenzi trained with national and international directors with whom he worked as assistant director and collaborator: Spike Lee, Abel Ferrara, Abbas Kiarostami, Mario Monicelli, Paolo Virzì, Giacomo Campiotti. He debuts in 2002 with Genova senza risposte, a documentary film on the events of the G8 in Genoa in 2001, distributed to the cinema by Gianluca Arcopinto’s Pablo. In 2003 Nunca máis – The black tide, about the environmental disaster caused in Galicia by the Prestige oil tanker, received a special mention at the “Cinema Ambiente” festival in Turin. In 2007 he was co-writer of the television series I liceali, directed by Lucio Pellegrini and broadcast on the Mediaset networks. He also creates a series of documentaries as director and author for Rai. He collaborates on all editions of Italia: Journey into beauty as an author and director. In 2011 he wrote and directed the short film The Cricket, starring Birol Ünel and Edoardo Gabbriellini. The work is in competition, in the “Controcampo” section, at the 68th Venice International Film Festival. In 2012 he wrote and directed his first film, I calcianti, presented in 2015 at the 37th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival. Also in 2015 he received the award for best director at the “Bridge of Arts” International Arts Festival – IMFF. In 2020 he created and directed the Mediaset fiction L’ora, Inchiostro contro piombo, with Claudio Santamaria. In 2023 he wrote and directed the film Afrodite for Marco Belardi’s Greenboo and Rai Cinema, with Giulia Michelini, Ambra Angiolini and Gaetano Bruno. He is currently developing the film Aditi, of which he will be director and co-writer together with Ugo Chiti and Matteo Ferri. He has just completed the animated short Spring Waltz as director and screenwriter.
Clelia Catalano, born in 1985, is an illustrator from Palermo, costume designer and 2D animation video maker. In 2009 he attended the illustration course at the International School of Comics in Florence. In those years he began to paint, approaching the world of art. In 2011 he exhibited his works at the Apulian Film Festival Finibus Terrae. In the same year he was a costume designer for the I Giovani del Teatro Vascello company in Rome founded by Maurizio Lombardi. Since 2019 he has collaborated with the artist Rà Di Martino, for whom he created the costumes for his art videos: Afterall (2019), produced by the Mattatoio Museum of Rome; Aaaaa! (2020), produced by the Macro Museum of Rome; Moon Bird Opera produced by the Merz Foundation of Turin. In 2020 he published his illustrations in Flewid Book magazine. He created the music video for the song Mammut by Gimbo, for which Clelia created the drawings, 2D animation, editing and direction. In 2022 for Neutra Productions he animated and directed, together with Stefano Lorenzi, the short film Spring Waltz.
