Festival du Film Merveilleux & Imaginaire expands its 2026 screenings across Argentina

During and following its 16th edition in Paris, the Festival du Film Merveilleux & Imaginaire continues its international journey with a series of screenings across Argentina, in collaboration with several branches of the Alliance Française network.

From Buenos Aires to Bariloche, Bahía Blanca, Mendoza, Paraná and Tierra del Fuego, these screenings extend the life of the Festival beyond Paris and offer new audiences the opportunity to discover a selection of French short films exploring imagination, wonder and contemporary storytelling.

The initiative reflects one of the Festival’s long-standing ambitions: to enable films and filmmakers to circulate internationally, while creating spaces for cultural exchange and dialogue between audiences.

A five-film French programme

The programme presented in Argentina brings together five French short films from the Festival’s 2026 selection, showcasing a diversity of artistic approaches, techniques and perspectives.

Sulaimani

Directed by Vinnie Anne Bose — 19’49

A fully handcrafted film using puppets and animated ink, Sulaimani presents two intertwined portraits of Indian women from Kerala.

Le Jour des adultes (Grown Up Day)

Directed by David Caspir — 22’08

What happens when the certainties of childhood suddenly disappear? The film follows Stéphane, an architect who has preserved his childlike sense of wonder, as an unexpected discovery triggers a very unusual midlife crisis.

Les Bottes de la nuit

Directed by Pierre-Luc Granjon — 12’22

Created using pinscreen animation, the film is a poetic coming-of-age story exploring friendship and otherness.

Un coup de pinceau (A Brushstroke)

Directed by Stéphane Martinet — 19’33

Pierre, an internationally renowned painter who has struggled to find inspiration since the death of his wife, creates a mysterious work that gradually becomes an enigmatic masterpiece.

Bourreau des Cœurs

Directed by Inès Moussard, Antoine Genza, Ilian Belkilani, Sam Ripart, Alexandre Julhe and Camille Duvere — 6’00

Grégoire works for Paris City Hall removing the love locks that threaten the Pont des Arts. Sophie, however, is determined to preserve these symbols of eternal love. Their encounter offers a playful and romantic look at love, memory and the city.

Further screenings are also being prepared with the Alliance Française de Mendoza, Alliance Française de Tierra del Fuego and Alliance Française de Paraná, with dates to be announced.

Cinema as a bridge between cultures

The Festival du Film Merveilleux & Imaginaire is a Paris-based international short-film festival dedicated to cinema that explores wonder, imagination and the diversity of artistic worlds. Through its selections and international collaborations, the Festival seeks to create encounters between filmmakers, cultural institutions and audiences, while encouraging intercultural dialogue through cinema.

The 2026 programme can also be approached through themes connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, and Sustainable Cities and Communities. This editorial perspective does not impose a single interpretation on the films, but highlights issues and themes that naturally emerge from the works.

Through these screenings taking place during and after its Paris edition, the Festival continues to build bridges between French cinema, international audiences and local cultural networks, allowing short films to travel beyond the Festival’s Paris screenings.
