An invitation to travel beyond borders through the power of imagination, this second edition brings together five distinctive Russian short films, from poetic animation to fantastic fiction, exploring dreams, human relationships, technology and extraordinary worlds.

Presented as part of Movies Around the World, the Festival’s international screening programme, the evening will also be an opportunity to reconnect with audiences, discover new cinematic voices and share a friendly moment together.

Five Films, Five Journeys into the Imagination

This year’s programme includes two award-winning films from the Festival du Film Merveilleux & Imaginaire’s 16th edition, held in Paris in September 2026.

Above, directed by Dmitry Borzykin and winner of the Best Film Award 2026, invites audiences into a future where dreams of space exploration have been forbidden.

Omnivore, directed by Daria Garonika and recipient of the Jury Prize 2026, explores the unsettling boundaries of identity and human nature.

Three other films complete this cinematic journey:

  • Don’t Dust Up, by Anastasia Pastory, a humorous encounter between generations and technology.
  • What Keeps Us Together, by Sergei Annenkov, a mysterious story exploring love, trust and suspicion.
  • Hydrosphere, by Andrey Sokolov, a poetic animated adventure following a young octopus dreaming of travelling among the stars.

Together, these five stories remind us that imagination knows no borders.

From Paris to Rostov-on-Don: A Journey That Continues

Since its creation in 2010, the Festival du Film Merveilleux & Imaginaire has celebrated imaginative filmmaking from around the world, bringing together stories, filmmakers and audiences across cultures.

On 14 October 2025, the Festival presented its first Russian Short Film Evening at the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Centre in Paris. Audiences discovered five films: La Louve, Tweet Tweet, Hymn of the Plague, Sirène and Son.

The journey continued on 28 March 2026, in collaboration with the Alliance Française of Rostov-on-Don, through a special screening of French short films: La Louve, Toc, La Fille accordéon, Le Garçon et le Slip and Le Monde des petits mondes.

Presented at both events, La Louve became a beautiful cinematic connection between Paris and Rostov-on-Don, illustrating how stories can travel, find new audiences and create shared experiences.

This October, the journey comes full circle as the Festival returns to Paris with five new Russian films, continuing a cultural exchange built around curiosity, artistic discovery and the universal language of cinema.

A Warm Reunion at the Russian Cultural Centre

We are especially delighted to renew our collaboration with the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Centre in Paris, whose team warmly welcomed our first edition in 2025.

Located on the banks of the Seine, the Centre provides a setting for encounters between artistic traditions, contemporary creativity and audiences from different backgrounds.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Centre’s team for their hospitality, enthusiasm and continued support in making this second evening possible.

We are also pleased to acknowledge Festagent, our film promotion partner, whose work helps filmmakers bring their stories to festivals and audiences around the world.

More than a screening, this evening is an invitation to come together, discover something unexpected and celebrate the connections that cinema can create.
